Skikda police have apprehended five individuals suspected of attempting to steal a citizen’s vehicle. The General Directorate of National Security announced the arrests following a swift response to a reported incident.
According to police reports, authorities received a call via the green line (48-15) detailing an assault on a resident by a group attempting to commandeer his car. The suspects allegedly used another vehicle, described as blue with foreign license plates, to facilitate their escape.
The rapid intervention of security forces, coupled with the use of a video circulating on social media that documented the event, led to the quick identification and arrest of the suspects. During the operation, police seized the vehicle used in the attempted theft, as well as a bladed weapon and a balaclava found in the possession of the detainees.
DZWatch understands that the arrested individuals have been presented before the competent prosecution authority, where they face charges related to the attempted carjacking. A criminal investigation is underway.
National security forces continue to urge citizens to utilize the green line (48-15) to report any suspicious activity. This collaborative effort is essential in maintaining security and preventing crime across the Skikda region and throughout Algeria.
