Algeria and Belarus Explore Healthcare Collaboration

Algeria’s Minister of Health, Mohamed Sadik Ait Messoudane, received his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Valerievich Khodzhayev, at the ministry headquarters yesterday. The meeting served as an opportunity to review the current state of the healthcare systems in both countries and explore avenues for enhanced bilateral cooperation, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Health.

The discussions, held Tuesday evening, were framed within the context of strengthening ties between Algeria and Belarus in the health sector. Both ministers expressed a shared commitment to expanding cooperation in ways that align with the capabilities of both nations and the directives of their respective leaderships.

During the meeting, the ministers reviewed the healthcare landscapes of their respective countries, emphasizing similarities and areas of mutual interest. They also addressed healthcare needs and priorities, particularly those related to improving the quality of care for citizens and enhancing the effectiveness of health services.

The meeting also provided a platform to discuss establishing a fruitful health partnership. Minister Ait Messoudane proposed enhanced collaboration in specialized medical fields such as pediatric cardiac surgery, ophthalmology, and neurology. He also suggested expanding the use of artificial intelligence to improve health services, develop health hubs, and support community-based health policies.

The Belarusian Minister of Health expressed interest in advancing health cooperation with Algeria, particularly in the areas of obstetrics and gynecology, and medical training. He proposed organizing virtual meetings and reciprocal field visits to strengthen coordination and facilitate the continuous exchange of expertise.

Furthermore, the two ministers agreed to establish a joint committee comprised of central directors from both the Algerian and Belarusian Ministries of Health. This committee will be responsible for developing a practical roadmap that includes areas for exchanging experiences and knowledge, particularly in specialized medical fields. The committee will also explore cooperation in the areas of digitization and telemedicine, especially in radiology and medical imaging using AI.

This collaboration signifies a renewed commitment to strengthening healthcare systems in both Algeria and Belarus.
