Algerian Army Foils Massive Drug Smuggling Attempt at Moroccan Border

Algiers, Algeria – Joint detachments of the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP), in coordination with various security services, have successfully thwarted a major attempt to smuggle a large quantity of processed cannabis across the border with Morocco. The operation, conducted across several military districts, resulted in the arrest of 30 drug traffickers and the seizure of 19,930 kilograms of processed cannabis.

In addition to the drug bust, authorities confiscated 1,425,734 psychotropic tablets, according to an operational report released by the ANP on Wednesday. The report highlights the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and organized crime across the country.

Furthermore, two terrorists surrendered to military authorities in Adrar and In Guezzam. Separately, ANP detachments apprehended four individuals providing support to terrorist groups in various operations throughout Algerian territory.

The ANP statement emphasized that these operations, carried out between November 26th and December 2nd, 2025, reflect the high level of professionalism, vigilance, and constant readiness of the Algerian armed forces across the national territory. The army remains committed to safeguarding Algeria’s borders and combating all forms of criminal activity.

In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, Illizi, and Djanet, ANP units apprehended 344 individuals and seized 29 vehicles, 244 generators, and 133 jackhammers, along with quantities of raw gold mixture, stones, and equipment used in illegal gold mining operations.

During separate operations, authorities apprehended 14 additional individuals and seized one Kalashnikov assault rifle, seven hunting rifles, and 103,300 liters of fuel, as well as 25 tons of tobacco and 10 tons of food intended for smuggling and speculation.

Moreover, coast guard units foiled illegal emigration attempts off the Algerian coast, rescuing 63 individuals aboard makeshift boats. Authorities also detained 270 illegal immigrants of various nationalities across the country.
