Snowfall Disrupts Traffic on Key National Routes

Algiers, December 3, 2025 – Significant snowfall across several regions of Algeria has led to the closure of key national routes, disrupting traffic and prompting warnings from the National Gendarmerie.

According to an announcement made via the Gendarmerie’s official ‘My Road’ Facebook page, National Route 33 is currently impassable in three specific locations due to heavy snow accumulation. These areas include Tikjda (Asnames municipality) and Akouker (Bechloul municipality) within the Bouira province, as well as Assoul (Ait Boumahdi municipality) in the Tizi Ouzou province.

Furthermore, National Route 15 has been closed at the Tizi Ouzou province level, specifically in the Faj Tirourda area of the Iferhounene municipality. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as conditions change.

While these routes remain closed for safety reasons, the National Gendarmerie has confirmed that all other national roads are currently open to traffic. However, they are strongly advising all road users to exercise extreme caution when travelling, particularly in mountainous areas where snowfall is heaviest.

Motorists are urged to check weather forecasts and road conditions before embarking on journeys, and to ensure their vehicles are properly equipped for winter driving. Drivers should be prepared for potential delays and adjust their travel plans accordingly.
