Algeria Accelerates Digital Transformation, Infrastructure Projects

Algiers, December 3, 2025 – The Algerian government is intensifying its efforts to expedite digital transformation and advance critical infrastructure projects across the nation. A high-level government meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrib, convened today to review progress on key initiatives related to digitization, communications, and major infrastructure development.

A central focus of the meeting was the National Strategy for E-Commerce Development. This strategy aims to propel Algeria’s digital evolution and bolster the national economy’s position in the digital marketplace. The initiative seeks to modernize the domestic trade environment, enhance the competitiveness of Algerian businesses, and expand financial inclusion by integrating electronic payment solutions and streamlining online commercial activities.

The government also examined the implementation of Non-Geostationary Orbit (NGSO) satellite-based electronic communication services. This technology promises to deliver high-speed internet access to remote and rural areas, bridging the digital divide and strengthening national network capabilities. The project is considered vital for completing Algeria’s strategic communications infrastructure.

Furthermore, updates were provided on the progress of the national railway network development program. Sector representatives presented reports detailing the advancements made in expanding and modernizing Algeria’s rail infrastructure.

Beyond digital and connectivity initiatives, the meeting addressed ongoing infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Constantine sports complex, the Boukhroufa dam project in El Tarf province, and the vital water transfer project between Ighil Emda and Mahouane, connecting Bejaia and Setif provinces. This water project is considered crucial for enhancing water security in the region.

Today’s meeting underscores the government’s commitment to accelerating digital reforms and closely monitoring the progress of strategically important infrastructure projects. These efforts are aimed at improving public services and supporting sustainable economic development across Algeria.
