Algeria Plays Central Role in Africa-Europe Cooperation

Algeria’s pivotal role in fostering collaboration between Africa and Europe across various sectors, particularly in economic development, has been lauded by the European Union’s Ambassador to Algeria, Diego Mellado.

Speaking on the sidelines of a tree-planting initiative organized by the EU delegation in Algeria, in partnership with representatives from the African Union and the General Directorate of Forests, Ambassador Mellado emphasized Algeria’s significance as a crucial bridge connecting Europe and Africa. He stated that Algeria is instrumental in improving the circumstances of both continents and promoting industrial development and economic diversification.

“Algeria serves as a Mediterranean, African, and Arab partner, a vital gateway for cooperation with Africa in areas such as infrastructure, trade, investment, energy, politics, security, and migration,” the Ambassador noted. He affirmed the European Union’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Algeria in the area of economic diversification and continuing to work towards shared objectives.

Ambassador Mellado also highlighted the potential of Algeria’s tourism sector, recognizing its significant assets and distinct opportunities for development.

The Director-General of Forests, Djamel Touahria, underscored the importance of the reforestation effort in protecting vegetation cover, stressing the need to intensify awareness campaigns among younger generations.

The event was attended by representatives from the European Union in Algeria, delegates from the African Union, and ambassadors from several European and African nations.
