Algerian Police Showcase Drug Fight Expertise at Arab Summit

Tunis, December 3, 2025 – Ali Badaoui, Director General of the Algerian National Security, highlighted Algeria’s experience in combating drug trafficking during the 49th Arab Police and Security Leaders Conference in Tunis today.

Badaoui led a delegation of senior officials from the General Directorate of National Security to the conference, which focused on “Emerging Trends and Threats from Synthetic Drugs.” The event brought together police and security chiefs from across the Arab world, as well as representatives from international and regional security organizations.

In his address, Badaoui outlined the Algerian police’s approach to tackling drug trafficking, emphasizing its alignment with the national strategy for preventing drug and psychotropic substance abuse. He noted that this strategy has enabled operational units of the National Security to achieve significant results, including the seizure of large quantities of synthetic drugs, particularly ecstasy, smuggled primarily by land and sea. He also highlighted intensified public awareness campaigns aimed at educating citizens about these emerging crimes.

Badaoui emphasized the Algerian police’s commitment to strengthening international and Arab cooperation through coordinated information sharing, ensuring an effective response to transnational organized crime and current security threats. These threats include migrant smuggling, human trafficking, and cybercrime, particularly in light of advancements in artificial intelligence.

He called for enhanced joint Arab security cooperation in response to regional security threats and the rise of various forms of crime, especially emerging crimes like criminal networks specializing in synthetic drug trafficking. He characterized these networks as a weapon in hybrid warfare, aimed at undermining the Arab social fabric.

Badaoui’s participation also provided an opportunity for bilateral meetings with police chiefs from Sudan, Oman, Palestine, Yemen, and the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol), focusing on matters of shared police interest. The conference also recognized the Algerian police with two awards.
