Algeria’s Civil Protection units have been actively engaged across several provinces in the last 24 hours, responding to the challenges posed by heavy rainfall and snowfall. The General Directorate of Civil Protection reported a series of interventions aimed at assisting citizens affected by the adverse weather conditions.
First Lieutenant Karim Ben Fahsi, in charge of information and communication at the General Directorate of Civil Protection, stated that Civil Protection teams have been working to drain rainwater that infiltrated homes and residences. He highlighted interventions in Algiers, Bouira, Sidi Bel Abbes, and Tizi Ouzou, with a particular focus on the Ifrahounen area, which experienced significant snowfall.
“Our teams are working tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens during this period of inclement weather,” Ben Fahsi noted.
He further reported that Civil Protection units successfully rescued three individuals who were stranded in a vehicle due to heavy snow accumulation on the national road connecting Tizi Ouzou and Bouira. Importantly, he confirmed that all interventions were carried out without any reported casualties during this recent wave of rain and snow.
First Lieutenant Ben Fahsi emphasized the importance of vigilance and caution for citizens, especially when traveling in areas experiencing rainfall and snowfall. He urged increased caution within homes to prevent the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning from heating appliances. He also reminded the public that the toll-free number 10-21 is available nationwide to receive reports and provide assistance when needed.
The Civil Protection Directorate continues to monitor the situation closely and remains prepared to deploy resources as needed to ensure the safety and security of the Algerian population. DZWatch will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves.
