National Gendarmerie Dismantles International Drug Trafficking Ring

Chéraga, Algeria – The National Gendarmerie in Chéraga has successfully dismantled a dangerous international network involved in smuggling and trafficking psychotropic substances. This operation, one of the largest recorded in recent times, represents a significant blow against organized crime.

The operation was initiated following actionable intelligence received by the Gendarmerie’s investigation and research unit. Subsequent in-depth investigations, conducted across several wilayas in close coordination with judicial authorities, led to the identification of the network’s members and their operational locations. This paved the way for a meticulously planned arrest operation.

The operation resulted in the arrest of 10 individuals, including one woman. Most of the suspects have prior criminal records and were wanted under arrest warrants. Authorities seized a substantial quantity of psychotropic drugs, including 16,921 capsules of Pregabalin 300mg and 14 Ketile tablets.

In addition to the drugs, the Gendarmerie confiscated 19 vehicles and two trucks used by the network for transportation and concealment. A sum of 340,000 Algerian Dinars, believed to be proceeds from their criminal activities, was also seized, along with several mobile phones.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the network employed sophisticated methods for smuggling, storage, and transportation. There are also suspicions of money laundering and vehicle documentation forgery, highlighting the scale and severity of their operations. DZWatch understands that this international network had ties to other countries.

Following the completion of all necessary legal procedures, the detainees will be brought before the competent regional judicial authorities to face serious charges.
