Algiers – Algeria and South Africa have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and maintaining a unified stance on key international issues, following a meeting between senior officials in Algiers.
Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, received Alvin Botes, Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa, at the Ministry headquarters on Thursday.
Botes’ official visit to Algeria was to represent his country at the 12th High-Level Seminar on Peace and Security in Africa, known as the “Oran Process,” scheduled to take place in Algeria on December 1st and 2nd, 2025.
During the discussions, both sides expressed satisfaction with the increasing momentum in cooperation between Algeria and South Africa. They highlighted the implementation of outcomes from the recent session of the Joint High Commission, co-chaired by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa.
Key areas of discussion included enhanced collaboration in various sectors, as well as a shared vision for addressing regional and global challenges. Both parties emphasized their alignment on just causes at the continental and international levels, particularly the Palestinian cause and the issue of Western Sahara.
The officials reiterated their commitment to international legitimacy and the established UN doctrine in the field of decolonization. This commitment underscores the two nations’ dedication to upholding international law and promoting peaceful resolutions to ongoing conflicts.
The meeting signals a continued effort to deepen the strategic partnership between Algeria and South Africa, further solidifying their roles as key players in African diplomacy and development.
