Algiers, Algeria – The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications officially announced the launch of fifth-generation (5G) mobile network services in Algeria yesterday. This marks a significant step forward in the nation’s technological advancement and digital transformation efforts.
The launch event was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Said Saayoud, Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Urban Planning; Kamal Sidi Said, Advisor to the President of the Republic in charge of the General Directorate of Communication; Abdelkrim Boualzard, Minister of Finance; and Sid Ali Zerrouki, Minister of Post and Telecommunications. Ambassadors, representatives from the three major mobile operators – Mobilis, Djezzy, and Ooredoo – as well as central executives and partners in the telecommunications sector were also present.
This launch represents a pivotal moment in the modernization of Algeria’s telecommunications sector. It enables mobile operators to begin deploying initial 5G base stations and preparing service offerings for both individual consumers and businesses. The rollout will follow a carefully planned national strategy, ensuring gradual and balanced coverage over a six-year period. The initial phase will focus on priority regions, with the ultimate goal of achieving comprehensive nationwide 5G coverage.
