Cairo – The Arab League reaffirmed on Thursday the imperative of resolving the prolonged suffering of Palestinian refugees and safeguarding their inalienable rights.
In a statement released today, the League emphasized the necessity of upholding the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, their right of return to their homes from which they were displaced, and their right to compensation. These rights, the statement asserted, are enshrined in international law, particularly UN General Assembly Resolution 194 of 1948.
The Arab League highlighted the urgency of addressing the humanitarian crisis faced by Palestinian refugees, many of whom have lived in displacement for generations. The organization reiterated its commitment to working with international partners to find a just and lasting solution to the refugee issue, based on international law and relevant UN resolutions.
“The plight of Palestinian refugees is a stain on the conscience of the international community,” stated a League spokesperson. “We must redouble our efforts to ensure that their rights are respected and that they are afforded the opportunity to live in dignity and security.”
The statement comes amid ongoing discussions within the international community regarding the future of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the need for a comprehensive peace agreement. The Arab League has consistently maintained that a just resolution to the refugee issue is a crucial component of any such agreement.
The organization pledged to continue advocating for the rights of Palestinian refugees and working towards a future where they can exercise their right to return and live in peace and security.
