London – Algeria is actively pursuing international collaborations to bolster its mining sector. Karima Bekir Tafer, Secretary of State to the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, responsible for mines, engaged in bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the “Resourcing Tomorrow” global mining event held in London.
During the final day of the event, Secretary Tafer met with a delegation from the mining sector of the Canadian province of New Brunswick. Discussions centered on exploring opportunities for cooperation, exchanging expertise, and leveraging Canadian experiences in processing, sustainable exploitation, and the advancement of geological research.
The “Resourcing Tomorrow” event, held in London from December 1st to 4th under the theme “Securing Minerals and Resources… Empowering the Future,” served as a platform for Algeria to connect with key international players.
Secretary Tafer also held talks with Fhomuzile Mngqibisa, Deputy Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of South Africa. The discussions focused on Algeria’s national strategy in the field of mining, particularly the economic importance of this sector in supporting national growth and diversifying income sources. During this meeting, Secretary Tafer received a presentation on South Africa’s mining strategy, described as one of the most mature global experiences in this field. Both parties exchanged views on ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
In addition to these bilateral meetings, the Secretary of State participated in several sessions and conferences dedicated to discussing the latest global developments and strategies in the mining sector. She also attended technical and scientific conferences that addressed vital topics, including modern innovations in mineral exploration, the development of mineral value chains and their role in global energy security, and mechanisms for promoting sustainable investments in the mining sector.
Algeria aims to leverage these international engagements to enhance its mining capabilities and contribute to the country’s economic diversification efforts.
