Government Reviews Drug Prevention, Private Healthcare Investment

Algiers, November 5, 2025 – Prime Minister Sifi Ghrib presided over a government meeting today to address several key policy areas.

Following up on discussions from the October 22, 2025 meeting, the government continued its review of two draft executive decrees concerning drug and substance abuse. These decrees outline the conditions and procedures for detecting drug use in educational and training institutions, as well as preventative measures during recruitment in both the public and private sectors.

These initiatives are part of the National Strategy 2025-2029 for the Prevention of Drugs and Psychotropic Substances. The aim is to strengthen the protection of children, youth, and professionals from the dangers of substance abuse.

The government also received a presentation on the reorganization of private sector investment in healthcare. The presentation highlighted the growing capacity of the private sector, its supportive legislative and regulatory framework, and its ongoing development. Emphasis was placed on integrating private investment into the national health strategy and aligning it with public sector initiatives to encourage and support its growth. This integration seeks to create a complementary relationship between the public and private healthcare systems.

Finally, the government was briefed on the progress of efforts to clear agricultural land belonging to the state’s private domain, regardless of its allocation or usage. This operation, implemented under the directives of the President of the Republic, aims to regularize the status of agricultural land and facilitate its exploitation through the establishment of committees at the Wilaya (province) and Daïra (district) levels. The initiative also seeks to improve coordination and expedite the recovery of unexploited land.
