President Joseph Aoun has affirmed Lebanon’s unwavering commitment to ongoing negotiations with Israel. During a meeting with representatives of the United Nations Security Council member states, the President stated that the decision to engage in talks with Israel was made to avert war and that there would be no turning back from this path.
“This is a crucial moment for Lebanon. We believe that diplomacy and dialogue are the only viable options to secure our nation’s interests and prevent further conflict,” President Aoun stated.
Meanwhile, Naeem Qassem, Secretary-General of Hezbollah, described the appointment of a civilian to lead the Lebanese delegation to the Armistice Agreement meetings as an unnecessary concession. However, he emphasized the organization’s support for the state’s decision to pursue diplomatic avenues to deter aggression.
“While we may have reservations about certain aspects of the negotiation process, we stand united with the Lebanese state in its efforts to protect our sovereignty and security through peaceful means,” Qassem said.
The negotiations, which have been ongoing for several months, are focused on resolving longstanding border disputes and maritime rights. The international community has expressed strong support for the talks, urging both sides to engage constructively and reach a mutually acceptable agreement.
The Lebanese government views these negotiations as vital for stabilizing the region and fostering a climate of peace and cooperation. President Aoun’s reaffirmation underscores the nation’s resolve to pursue a peaceful resolution to its disputes with Israel.
