Digitalization Key to Boosting Traditional Crafts: Minister

Timimoun – The Minister of Tourism and Traditional Industries, Houria Medahi, emphasized the crucial role of digitalization in promoting and marketing traditional crafts, and enhancing their position in international markets. The Minister made these remarks on Friday in Timimoun, during an official visit focused on the development of the tourism sector and the promotion of local artisanal products.

Minister Medahi highlighted that leveraging digital platforms and technologies is no longer a luxury, but a necessity for artisans to reach wider audiences and compete effectively in today’s globalized economy. She stated that the Ministry is committed to supporting artisans in adopting digital tools and strategies to showcase their unique skills and products.

“Digitalization offers unprecedented opportunities for our traditional industries,” said Minister Medahi. “It allows artisans to connect directly with consumers, reduce marketing costs, and gain valuable insights into market trends. By embracing e-commerce, social media, and other digital channels, we can unlock the full potential of our traditional crafts and create new economic opportunities for local communities.”

The Minister’s visit coincided with the International Festival of Saharan Tourism in Timimoun, an event that showcases the rich cultural heritage and tourism potential of the region. Minister Medahi toured the festival grounds, engaging with artisans and entrepreneurs, and reiterating the government’s commitment to supporting the growth of the tourism and traditional industries sectors.

The Ministry is planning to launch several initiatives aimed at promoting digitalization within the traditional industries sector, including training programs, online marketplaces, and digital marketing campaigns. These initiatives are designed to empower artisans with the knowledge and tools they need to succeed in the digital age and ensure the long-term sustainability of their crafts.

The focus on digitalization reflects the government’s broader strategy to diversify the economy and promote non-hydrocarbon sectors. By investing in tourism and traditional industries, Algeria aims to create new jobs, boost exports, and preserve its rich cultural heritage for future generations.
