Arab Parliament Chief Hails UNRWA Mandate Extension

Cairo – The President of the Arab Parliament, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, has welcomed the United Nations General Assembly’s overwhelming vote to renew the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) for another three years.

In a statement released Saturday, Al Yamahi emphasized that this strong international support demonstrates the global commitment to the rights of the Palestinian people and represents a rejection of attempts to undermine their just cause. The vote, he stated, reinforces the international community’s recognition of the vital role UNRWA plays in providing essential services to millions of Palestinian refugees.

“This decision is a clear message that the world stands with the Palestinian people and their right to a dignified life,” Al Yamahi asserted. He further added that the Arab Parliament views the renewal as a crucial step in maintaining stability in the region and ensuring continued humanitarian assistance to those who need it most.

Al Yamahi also highlighted the importance of continued international cooperation to address the root causes of the Palestinian refugee crisis and to work towards a just and lasting solution based on international law and relevant UN resolutions. He reiterated the Arab Parliament’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate aspirations.

The extension of UNRWA’s mandate comes at a critical time, as the agency faces numerous challenges, including funding shortages and increasing demands for its services. The Arab Parliament has consistently called for increased international support for UNRWA to enable it to fulfill its mandate effectively and efficiently.
