Algiers – Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellawi, chaired a meeting today of the Public Works Sub-Committee tasked with overseeing the Western Mining Railway project connecting Bechar, Tindouf, and Gara Djebilet. The meeting, attended by representatives from various relevant sectors, emphasized the critical importance of completing the project before the end of the current year, according to a statement released by the Ministry.
The Western Mining Railway is considered a strategic infrastructure initiative crucial for the development of the Gara Djebilet iron ore mine. This mine is expected to significantly boost Algeria’s economy and diversify its revenue streams. The timely completion of the railway is therefore paramount to facilitating the efficient transport of iron ore from the mine to processing and export facilities.
Minister Djellawi reiterated the government’s commitment to providing all necessary resources and support to ensure the project stays on track. He urged all stakeholders to intensify their efforts and work collaboratively to overcome any remaining obstacles. He also stressed the need for strict adherence to quality standards and environmental regulations throughout the remaining phases of construction.
