Sahrawi Observatory Condemns Exploitation of Resources

Refugee Camps, Algeria – The Sahrawi Observatory for Monitoring Resources and Protecting the Environment has strongly condemned what it describes as the continued exploitation of the Sahrawi people’s natural resources by Moroccan authorities. The condemnation centers around the recent partnership agreements with the European Union, which the observatory claims are in direct violation of rulings by the European Court of Justice.

In a statement released earlier today, the observatory asserted that these agreements represent a blatant disregard for international law and the rights of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and control over their own resources. The statement further accuses Morocco of deliberately perpetuating the colonial status quo in Western Sahara through these economic partnerships.

“These actions are a clear demonstration of Morocco’s intent to further entrench its illegal occupation and benefit economically from the resources that rightfully belong to the Sahrawi people,” stated a spokesperson for the observatory. “The international community must hold Morocco accountable for its actions and ensure that the Sahrawi people are able to exercise their right to self-determination and benefit from their own natural wealth.”

The Observatory highlighted the potential environmental damage caused by the exploitation of resources, which not only threatens the livelihoods of the Sahrawi population but also negatively impacts the fragile desert ecosystem. They called for greater transparency and accountability in all resource extraction activities taking place in the region.

The Sahrawi Observatory’s statement reflects growing concerns within the Sahrawi community regarding the ongoing exploitation of resources in Western Sahara and the perceived lack of international action to address the situation. The organization vowed to continue monitoring resource extraction activities and advocating for the rights of the Sahrawi people on the international stage.
