Addis Ababa – The African Union Commission today reiterated its firm commitment to the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, underscoring its continued support for a two-state solution. The statement, released Monday, reaffirms the AU’s long-standing position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The Commission emphasized that its dedication to Palestinian rights remains steadfast and unwavering. This commitment, officials stated, is rooted in the AU’s core principles of solidarity with liberation movements and the pursuit of justice and self-determination for all peoples.
“The African Union stands in full solidarity with the Palestinian people in their quest for a just and lasting peace,” a spokesperson for the AU Commission noted. “We firmly believe that a two-state solution, based on internationally recognized borders, is the only viable path towards achieving a comprehensive and sustainable resolution to the conflict.”
The AU has historically been a strong advocate for Palestinian statehood and has consistently called for an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. This latest statement serves as a reaffirmation of the AU’s dedication to supporting the Palestinian cause on the international stage.
The Commission also expressed its concern over the ongoing humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territories and urged for increased international efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people. The AU further called for renewed dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians, emphasizing the importance of peaceful negotiations in achieving a lasting solution to the conflict.
