Algeria Cancels Revolution Day Celebrations in Solidarity with Palestine

Algiers, October 21, 2023 – In a significant gesture of solidarity with Palestine, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria has ordered the cancellation of all preparations for this year’s commemorations of the glorious November 1st Revolution, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad.

The statement, released on Thursday, revealed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad has instructed all Algerian embassies, diplomatic missions, and consulates abroad to halt all preparations related to the celebrations commemorating the revered November 1st anniversary.

This decision was made by President Tebboune to express the Algerian people and government’s solidarity with our Palestinian brothers and sisters in the besieged Gaza Strip, who are facing a relentless onslaught and a torrent of crimes and atrocities committed by the Zionist occupiers.

Communication Ministry Postpones National Press Day Celebrations

In response to the dire and perilous situation in occupied Palestine, Algeria’s Ministry of Communication has announced the postponement of National Press Day celebrations and the President’s Award for Professional Journalism, initially scheduled for October 21-22, 2023.

In a statement, the Ministry of Communication cited the tragic circumstances in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly in Gaza, as the reason for this postponement. It is a gesture of solidarity with our Palestinian brethren in their time of adversity.

Minister LAAkoub Receives Palestinian Ambassador to Algeria

On Wednesday evening, Minister of Communication Mohamed LAAkoub received the Palestinian Ambassador to Algeria, Mr. Fayez Abu Aita. During this meeting, which coincided with the tragic developments in the occupied Palestinian territories due to the aggressive Zionist onslaught in Gaza and several other areas, including Jenin and Khan Yunis, Mr. Abu Aita commended Algerian media for their efforts in shedding light on the ugly and heinous face of the Zionist entity, a truth often concealed by Western media outlets.

Mr. Abu Aita emphasized that 85% of the victims of the abhorrent Zionist aggression are children and women. He extended his gratitude to the Algerian authorities for their steadfast support of the Palestinian cause, recalling the words of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas: “We have not asked anything of Algeria without it fulfilling our requests.”

In response, Minister LAAkoub affirmed that Algeria has been, and will continue to be, a staunch supporter of the Palestinian people until they regain their usurped rights, including the right to freedom, self-determination, and the establishment of a sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital. He stressed that this support is not charity from Algeria but a natural stance for a nation that has endured the hardships of colonialism, much like Palestine is enduring today.

Palestinian Ambassador Expresses Gratitude to Algerians

During his participation in the massive rally held in the capital, Algiers, on Thursday, Palestinian Ambassador Fayez Abu Aita expressed his gratitude for the solidarity shown by the Algerian people, who stand in support of the just Palestinian cause.

Ambassador Abu Aita stated that the historic march genuinely reflects the Algerian people’s stance in solidarity with their Palestinian brothers and sisters, who are enduring the worst atrocities of Zionist occupation.

He concluded by emphasizing that this rally serves as a resounding declaration of Algeria’s government, people, and their unwavering support and solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Algeria’s commitment to standing by Palestine in their struggle for justice and freedom remains steadfast, echoing the sentiments of many nations around the world.
