Algiers, Algeria – The Algerian government is taking significant steps to bolster its digital transformation efforts with a proposed law focused on trust services for electronic transactions and electronic identification.
Sid Ali Zerrouki, the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, emphasized the importance of the legislation, stating that it aims to keep pace with the rapidly evolving digital landscape. The Minister made the remarks on Monday in Algiers.
The proposed law sets forth the general rules concerning trust services for electronic transactions and electronic identification. It is designed to enable the emergence of reliable and recognized electronic identification services, which are crucial for secure online interactions and the expansion of e-commerce.
“This law is a cornerstone of our strategy to create a robust and secure digital environment for citizens and businesses alike,” a ministry spokesperson told DZWatch. “It will foster greater confidence in online transactions and facilitate the adoption of digital technologies across various sectors.”
The legislation is currently under review by the People’s National Assembly. The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications believes that the law will contribute significantly to Algeria’s digital economy by providing a clear legal framework for electronic transactions and promoting the use of secure digital identities.
The successful implementation of this law is expected to streamline administrative processes, reduce bureaucracy, and improve the overall efficiency of government services. It also aligns with Algeria’s broader vision of becoming a regional leader in digital innovation.
