Algeria Elected Vice-Chair of WIPO Copyright Committee

Geneva, Switzerland – Algeria has been elected as Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The election took place at the conclusion of the 47th session of the SCCR held in Geneva.

Mr. Mehdi Delmi, Assistant Director-General of the National Copyright and Neighboring Rights Office (ONDA), will represent Algeria in this role for a two-year term spanning 2026-2027. Mr. Delmi’s election signifies Algeria’s commitment to intellectual property rights and its active participation in international forums shaping copyright policy.

Acting as the representative for the African Group, Algeria’s appointment highlights the country’s growing influence within the continent and on the global stage in matters concerning intellectual property. The SCCR plays a crucial role in addressing emerging challenges and opportunities in the digital age, including copyright protection in the digital environment, rights management information, and the protection of broadcasting organizations.

The Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) addresses copyright issues, including those related to new technologies. The Committee works to develop and maintain a balanced and effective international legal framework for copyright and related rights.
