Kyiv to Present Revised Peace Plan to Washington Today

Kyiv is set to present a revised peace plan to Washington today, aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The announcement follows discussions held in London with European allies. President Zelensky told reporters that the updated plan consists of 20 points, but that disagreements persist regarding territorial concessions.

“The American position, in principle, leans towards finding a compromise,” Zelensky stated. “Of course, there are complex issues related to territory, and a compromise has not yet been reached.”

Zelensky reiterated Ukraine’s firm stance against ceding any of its territory. This unwavering position remains a key point of contention in negotiations.

Prior to the London talks, President Zelensky met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa in Brussels. He described these meetings, as well as discussions with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, as “good and productive,” emphasizing that “we are working in a coordinated and constructive manner.”

Zelensky highlighted the delicate balance European powers must strike as they attempt to negotiate improved terms for a proposed American peace plan for Ukraine.

“There are things we cannot manage without the Americans, and others we cannot deal with without Europe, and that is why we need to make some important decisions,” he explained. The success of any peace initiative hinges on a unified and collaborative approach from all involved parties.
