Algiers, Algeria – National Gendarmerie forces in Algiers have dismantled a criminal gang following the circulation of disturbing videos on social media. The videos depicted the group allegedly holding individuals against their will, assaulting them, and threatening them with bladed weapons, causing widespread fear and panic among residents.
Initial investigations revealed that the first video showed two individuals allegedly abducting and physically assaulting a young woman. The victim was reportedly subjected to various forms of abuse and filmed without her consent in degrading circumstances. A second video purportedly showed another individual being beaten and threatened with a knife by the same gang members.
In response to the alarming videos, the National Gendarmerie’s territorial unit in Ain Benian launched a comprehensive investigation. This included thorough inquiries, intelligence gathering, and monitoring the movements of the gang members, particularly the prime suspect. A well-coordinated security plan was implemented in collaboration with the National Gendarmerie’s special detachment and relevant judicial authorities. The operation involved raiding and searching nine residences belonging to the suspects.
The operation resulted in the arrest of five individuals implicated in the crimes. Authorities seized various types and sizes of bladed weapons, six small bags containing cocaine, an electronic scale, a sum of money believed to be proceeds from criminal activities, and mobile phones.
Following the completion of all legal procedures, the suspects will be presented before the competent Public Prosecutor for prosecution. DZWatch will continue to follow this developing story.
