The Algiers Directorate of Transportation has announced the temporary suspension of the iconic cable car at the Martyr’s Memorial (Maqam E’chahid). The suspension, effective from today, Tuesday, will last for three days, concluding on Thursday.
The Directorate stated that this temporary closure is necessary to conduct routine maintenance on the cable car’s safety systems. This preventative measure aims to ensure the continued safe operation of the popular tourist attraction.
According to an official statement, the cable car is scheduled to resume operations on Friday, December 12, 2025, pending successful completion of all safety tests and inspections. The Directorate emphasized its commitment to public safety and adherence to rigorous maintenance protocols.
“The resumption of service is contingent upon the successful completion of these tests,” the statement clarified. “Any unforeseen changes to the reopening schedule will be promptly communicated to the public.”
The Directorate of Transportation extended its apologies to visitors for any inconvenience caused by the temporary suspension. They expressed gratitude for the public’s understanding and patience during this period of essential maintenance.
The Martyr’s Memorial cable car is a vital link providing access to the monument and panoramic views of the capital city. Regular maintenance is crucial to preserve its operational integrity and guarantee the safety of its passengers. The Directorate assures the public that every effort is being made to minimize the downtime and restore service as quickly as possible.
