Human Rights: Cornerstone of Societal Progress and Cohesion

Cairo – The protection and promotion of human rights constitute a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development in its comprehensive sense and are an essential requirement for the progress, stability, and cohesion of societies, stated Mohamed Ben Ahmed Al Yamahi, President of the Arab Parliament, on Wednesday.

In a statement released on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, Al Yamahi emphasized the Arab Parliament’s unwavering commitment to upholding human rights principles across the Arab world. He highlighted the importance of integrating human rights considerations into all aspects of governance and policymaking.

“Respect for human rights is not merely a moral imperative; it is a strategic imperative for building strong, resilient, and prosperous societies,” Al Yamahi asserted. He further underscored the critical role of human rights in fostering social justice, equality, and inclusivity, which are essential for sustainable development and lasting peace.

The President of the Arab Parliament also noted the challenges facing the Arab region in the field of human rights, including armed conflicts, displacement, and socio-economic inequalities. He called for concerted efforts to address these challenges and to ensure that all individuals, regardless of their background or circumstances, can enjoy their fundamental rights and freedoms.

“The Arab Parliament remains steadfast in its commitment to working with governments, civil society organizations, and international partners to advance the cause of human rights in the Arab world,” Al Yamahi affirmed. He concluded by reiterating the importance of dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect in promoting a culture of human rights and building a brighter future for all.

The statement serves as a timely reminder of the ongoing need to prioritize human rights in the pursuit of societal progress and stability, particularly in a region facing complex and multifaceted challenges.
