Algiers – The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has issued a directive to all universities across Algeria, aiming to guide a greater number of graduating students towards entrepreneurship-focused thesis topics. This initiative seeks to empower students to transform their academic projects into startup or micro-enterprises, fostering their contribution to the national economy through innovation and practical ventures.
The directive emphasizes the activation of the mechanism known as ‘University Degree – Economic Enterprise Project.’ It is based on Decision No. 1275, dated September 27, 2022, which outlines the procedures for students to prepare theses linked to economic projects. The Ministry stresses the strict implementation of this decision to ensure that graduation projects are readily convertible into viable businesses capable of establishing themselves in the market while addressing the needs of the socio-economic environment.
The Ministry also underscores the importance of involving all relevant stakeholders, particularly department heads, in the process of selecting thesis topics. University guidance cells, operating under the supervision of the Deputy Director of Pedagogy, play a crucial role in this process. These cells are tasked with directing students with promising business ideas towards relevant university units and supporting them throughout the various stages of transforming these ideas into functioning economic enterprises, as stipulated in Article 8 of the aforementioned decision.
The directive calls for the full activation of all entities involved in supporting students throughout their project development journey, from university business incubators to entrepreneurship development centers. Continuous monitoring of their performance is deemed essential to ensure the achievement of their objectives. Furthermore, the Ministry emphasizes the importance of supporting students until they obtain the ‘Economic Enterprise Project’ or ‘Innovative Project’ label, reflecting the level of achievement and creativity demonstrated by each participant.
This initiative represents a significant step towards integrating entrepreneurship into higher education and fostering a new generation of Algerian innovators and business leaders.
