Two Palestinians, including a child, have reportedly been killed by Israeli fire outside established zones in Jabalia, northern Gaza, according to sources within Gaza’s emergency services. The incident underscores the fragility of the ceasefire and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region.
Separately, a medical source at the Baptist Hospital in Gaza City reported that a young girl sustained a critical head wound after Israeli forces allegedly fired live ammunition at tents housing displaced individuals in Jabalia. Her condition is described as life-threatening.
The Israeli military stated that they killed a Palestinian who allegedly crossed a designated boundary line. The military claimed in a statement that two armed individuals crossed the line and approached their forces, posing an “immediate threat.” One of the individuals was reportedly neutralized.
These incidents occur amidst continued violations of the ceasefire agreement and a worsening humanitarian situation for displaced Gazans. Severe weather conditions, including cold temperatures and flooding, are exacerbating the plight of those living in makeshift camps.
The Civil Defense in Gaza reported that over 250,000 families in displacement camps are struggling to cope with the cold and rain. Thousands of tents have been flooded due to heavy rainfall, part of a strong weather system impacting the Gaza Strip. The displaced are facing dire conditions, lacking basic necessities and access to essential services, largely due to the ongoing Israeli restrictions.
Despite the ceasefire that came into effect on October 10th, following a prolonged period of conflict, the living conditions for Palestinians in Gaza have not improved significantly. Israel’s stringent restrictions on the entry of aid trucks are seen as a violation of the humanitarian protocol of the agreement.
Meanwhile, an Israeli official has stated that the second phase of the Gaza agreement will not commence until the remains of the last missing soldier are returned. This condition adds another layer of complexity to the already delicate situation, raising concerns about the future of the truce and the prospects for a lasting peace.
DZWatch continues to monitor the situation closely.
