Electoral Roll Prepared for Algeria’s New Provinces

Algiers, December 11, 2025 – The National Independent Elections Authority (ANIE) has proactively developed a plan for distributing the electoral roll across Algeria’s newly established provinces. This initiative anticipates upcoming election cycles and aims to ensure a smooth and efficient voting process in these regions.

Karim Khelfan, Acting Head of the ANIE, presented the plan to the Legal, Administrative Affairs, Human Rights, Local Government, Regional Planning, and Regional Division Committee of the Council of the Nation. The presentation accompanied a draft law concerning the country’s regional organization. Khelfan emphasized that the creation of new provinces necessitated a forward-thinking approach to electoral management.

“The National Independent Elections Authority has proactively prepared for future electoral events by developing a vision for the electoral roll in the newly created provinces,” Khelfan stated.

This preliminary distribution was based on data collected during the exceptional review of electoral lists conducted between June 12th and 27th, 2024, in preparation for the presidential elections held in September of the same year. A final update to the electoral roll distribution will be implemented following the conclusion of appeals related to the regular 2025 electoral list review.

Khelfan further explained that the regular review is still underway. “The deadline for receiving judicial appeals is December 19th, which falls on a Friday. This deadline has been extended until Sunday,” he confirmed. The ANIE’s proactive measures underscore its commitment to ensuring a well-organized and transparent electoral process throughout Algeria, including its newest administrative divisions.
