DZWatch Exclusive: The Israeli military has reportedly finalized a plan for a large-scale offensive against Hezbollah positions in Lebanon, according to sources within the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation. The plan will be activated if the Lebanese government and military fail to disarm the militant group by the end of 2025.
Unnamed Israeli security sources told the broadcasting corporation that the plan was developed by the army’s high command, with participation from the Northern Command, Intelligence Division, and Operations Division. The development comes amid growing concerns that diplomatic efforts to disarm Hezbollah may collapse.
The report further stated that the Israeli Air Force has conducted extensive exercises in recent days, both inland and over the Mediterranean Sea, involving fighter jets. These exercises are intended to enhance readiness for a potential military operation in southern Lebanon.
A senior security official reportedly stated that Israel has informed the United States that it will act independently to disarm Hezbollah if it is not done effectively, even if it leads to renewed fighting on the northern front. Washington has reportedly conveyed this warning to the Lebanese side. However, Beirut has indicated that the process is complex and requires more time to meet the set requirements.
This is the second time in two weeks that Israeli media has reported on a plan to expand operations against Hezbollah. On November 30th, Channel 13 reported that the Israeli army presented an operational plan to expand attacks against Hezbollah during a special meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and several ministers and security officials.
These developments occur despite Israel’s near-daily violations of the ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah, which has been in effect since November 27, 2024. These violations have resulted in hundreds of casualties and significant material damage.
The announcement of the plan follows statements from Hezbollah’s parliamentary bloc criticizing the Lebanese government.
DZWatch continues to monitor the situation closely.
