Algiers, December 12, 2025 – The National Meteorological Office has issued a severe weather alert for several regions across Algeria, forecasting heavy thunderstorms and strong winds. The alert, released Friday morning, warns residents to take necessary precautions.
The initial alert, designated as Level 1, specifically covers the wilayas of Naama, El Bayadh, Bechar, Beni Abbes, Tindouf, Touggourt, Ghardaia, El Menia, Ouargla, and In Salah. These regions are expected to experience intense thunderstorms throughout the morning, with the alert remaining in effect until midday today.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay indoors whenever possible and avoid unnecessary travel. Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution due to reduced visibility and potential flooding. The Meteorological Office also recommends securing outdoor objects that could be displaced by strong winds.
In addition to the thunderstorm warning, a separate alert has been issued for the wilaya of Tamanrasset. The region is bracing for strong winds, with gusts expected to begin at 9:00 AM and continue until 6:00 PM this evening. These strong winds could pose a threat to infrastructure and increase the risk of dust storms, further reducing visibility.
Authorities are closely monitoring the weather situation and providing updates as needed. Citizens are encouraged to stay informed by following official weather reports and heeding any safety advisories issued by local authorities. The National Meteorological Office emphasizes the importance of preparedness and vigilance during this period of adverse weather conditions.
