US Intelligence Reportedly Withheld Data from Israel During Biden Era

DZWatch has learned that US intelligence officials reportedly suspended the sharing of certain critical information with Israel during the previous administration of President Biden. Multiple sources familiar with the matter indicate that concerns regarding the conduct of military operations in the Gaza Strip prompted the temporary restrictions.

Specifically, in the latter half of 2024, the United States allegedly ceased providing live feed data from an American drone operating over Gaza. This feed had been utilized by the Israeli military, purportedly in efforts to locate captured Israelis and combatants associated with Hamas.

According to sources, the suspension of the drone feed lasted for at least several days. Furthermore, there are claims that the US restricted how Israel could utilize specific intelligence data in targeting key military locations within Gaza. The precise timeframe for these restrictions remains unclear.

These actions reportedly stemmed from growing unease within the US intelligence community regarding the number of civilian casualties resulting from Israeli military actions in Gaza. Concerns were also allegedly raised about the treatment of Palestinian detainees by Shin Bet, the Israeli internal security agency.

Sources indicate that officials expressed apprehension over Israel’s perceived lack of adequate assurances regarding adherence to the laws of war when utilizing US intelligence. Under US law, intelligence agencies are required to obtain such assurances before sharing information with foreign nations.

It is important to note that the reported intelligence restrictions were described as limited and tactical. Sources emphasized that the Biden administration maintained a broader policy of unwavering support for Israel through ongoing intelligence sharing and arms provisions. The aim of the restrictions, it is claimed, was to ensure that Israel used American intelligence in accordance with international laws of war.

One source familiar with the situation stated that intelligence officials possess the authority to make certain information-sharing decisions expeditiously, without requiring direct orders from the White House.
