Doctoral Thesis Defense Deadlines Extended in Algeria

Algiers – The General Directorate of Education and Training has officially instructed regional conference heads, in coordination with higher education institution directors, to extend the deadlines for doctoral thesis defenses. This extension applies to students who have not yet completed their defenses within the initially stipulated legal timeframe.

This decision, acting on ministerial directives and acknowledging the significant number of students facing delays, grants an exceptional extension for doctoral thesis defenses until December 31, 2026.

The extension encompasses all students enrolled in doctoral programs, including those under Executive Decree No. 98-254, dated August 17, 1998, concerning doctoral training, specialized postgraduate studies, and university accreditation. The decision also aligns with Executive Decree No. 08-265, dated August 19, 2008, which outlines the study system for obtaining Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees.

Emphasis has been placed on the strict implementation of this directive. University institutions are required to widely disseminate this information to ensure all affected students are aware of the extended deadline and can complete their defense procedures within the revised timeframe.
