Algiers – The Ministry of National Defense has strongly refuted allegations circulating in certain media outlets and online platforms concerning the purported creation of Algerian mercenary units operating in the Sahel region. In a strongly worded statement released today, the Ministry dismissed these claims as outright fabrications and baseless falsehoods.
The Ministry asserted that these fabricated narratives are part of a systematic disinformation campaign orchestrated by known platforms with hostile agendas. These platforms, it alleged, seek to tarnish the image of the People’s National Army and damage Algeria’s reputation regionally and internationally, serving dubious agendas aimed at destabilizing the country and influencing public opinion.
The statement emphasized that the People’s National Army, as the legitimate successor to the National Liberation Army, carries out its duties in strict adherence to the Constitution and laws of the Republic. Its actions are aligned with Algeria’s foreign policy, which is based on unwavering principles, including good neighborliness, respect for the sovereignty of states, and non-interference in their internal affairs. Algeria prioritizes peaceful solutions and dialogue in resolving crises.
Furthermore, the Ministry of National Defense reiterated Algeria’s diplomatic role at the regional and international levels in supporting peace and security, particularly in the Sahel region. Algeria has consistently advocated for adherence to international law, rejecting the logic of force, and working towards restoring stability through political and peaceful approaches.
The statement underscored that Algeria, given its geographical location and its human connection to the Sahel region, cannot be a party to destabilizing its security. Rather, Algeria continuously strives to support the economic and social development efforts of the region’s peoples, upholding the principle of solidarity and honoring deep-rooted historical and human ties. The Ministry affirmed that Algeria will not accept any questioning of its commitment to regional stability.
