Algiers – The Ministry of National Defense has vehemently denied recent reports circulating online alleging the creation of Algerian-backed mercenary units operating in the Sahel region. In a statement released Saturday, the ministry refuted what it described as baseless accusations and misleading information propagated by certain media outlets.
The statement emphasized that these reports, disseminated by websites known for their biased agendas, contain fabricated information devoid of any factual basis. The Ministry asserted that Algeria remains committed to regional stability through legitimate channels and diplomatic efforts, firmly rejecting any involvement in activities that could destabilize the Sahel.
“These allegations are completely unfounded and represent a deliberate attempt to tarnish Algeria’s reputation and undermine its efforts to promote peace and security in the region,” the statement read. “Algeria adheres strictly to international law and principles of non-interference in the internal affairs of other states.”
The Ministry further reiterated Algeria’s commitment to working with neighboring countries and international partners to combat terrorism and organized crime in the Sahel through established security cooperation frameworks. It condemned the spread of disinformation aimed at creating distrust and division, urging the public to rely on credible sources of information.
