Gaza Agreement: Doubts Loom Over Second Phase

As the Gaza agreement approaches its second phase, serious questions are being raised about the feasibility of implementing its terms. Many observers consider this phase to be significantly more complex, particularly given the perceived procrastination and non-compliance from the Israeli government regarding its obligations.

Palestinians fear that Israel will replicate its approach from the initial phase, interpreting and implementing the agreement according to its own interests rather than adhering to the agreed-upon terms. The agreement stipulates a cessation of all military operations, including aerial and artillery bombardment, and a freezing of combat lines, pending the fulfillment of conditions for a phased, complete withdrawal.

However, realities on the ground suggest a troubling pattern. There are claims that Israel has demonstrably disregarded its commitments. It has allegedly failed to adhere to the agreed withdrawal line, known as the ‘Yellow Line,’ and has purportedly expanded its control westward, maintaining control over a significant portion of the Gaza Strip.

Concerns are mounting that this behavior could undermine the entire agreement. The success of the second phase hinges on mutual trust and adherence to the established framework. Further delays and perceived violations could jeopardize the already fragile peace process and lead to renewed tensions in the region.

The international community is urged to closely monitor the implementation of the agreement and ensure that all parties fulfill their responsibilities. The future stability of the region depends on it.
