The regulatory text pertaining to the revised retirement law for the national education sector is currently with the General Secretariat of the Government, awaiting final signature. This announcement was made by Abdelhak Saihi, the Minister of Labor, Employment, and Social Security, providing the latest update on the implementation of the new law.
Minister Saihi, responding to a written inquiry from Parliamentary Deputy Taher Ben Ali, explained that the draft text has undergone several stages of review and enhancement. This included consultations and opinion gathering from various relevant sectors before being submitted to the General Secretariat of the Government. Coordination meetings were subsequently held to finalize the wording of the text.
The Minister emphasized that the project is now in its final stages, with procedures for its publication currently being completed. Saihi reminded that the amendment of Article 2 of Law No. 83-112 demonstrates the President’s commitment to teachers across all levels of the education sector. This commitment is realized through the introduction of retirement measures that recognize the unique characteristics and challenges of this noble profession by reducing the retirement age by three years.
This reduction is intended as a recognition of their efforts in educating and preparing future generations, within a fair and sustainable framework. The measure underscores the government’s appreciation for the vital role educators play in society.
Minister Saihi further added that this amendment is part of a comprehensive vision that responds to the evolving needs of social protection systems and takes into account current economic and social transformations. Following the Parliament’s approval of the law amendment and its publication in the Official Gazette, the ministry initiated the preparation of the regulatory text. This text aims to define the specific conditions and procedures that will enable eligible individuals to benefit from retirement pensions before reaching the statutory retirement age. The ministry is working diligently to ensure a smooth and efficient implementation of the new regulations.
