DZWatch Exclusive: December 14, 2025 – Algeria’s “Green Algeria” initiative is gearing up for a large-scale national tree-planting campaign, aiming to significantly boost the country’s green cover. The ambitious project, spearheaded by the Green Algeria association, intends to plant an impressive five million trees in a single day.
Details of the initiative were released yesterday on the association’s official Facebook page, generating considerable buzz and anticipation among environmental enthusiasts. The announcement was accompanied by a photograph featuring Fouad Maalla, the president of Green Algeria, alongside Yassine Mahdi Walid, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The accompanying caption stated, “We had a very fruitful meeting today with the Minister of Agriculture to ensure the success of the 5 Million Trees in One Day project (March 2026).” This collaborative effort underscores the government’s commitment to supporting environmental initiatives and fostering a greener future for Algeria.
The planned large scale planting is scheduled for March 2026. The Green Algeria initiative seeks to raise awareness about the importance of reforestation and environmental conservation.
This endeavor builds upon a previous successful tree-planting campaign held on October 25th, which saw over one million trees planted within a 24-hour period. The upcoming project demonstrates a continued commitment to expanding Algeria’s green spaces and mitigating the effects of climate change. The Green Algeria initiative hopes to set a new standard for environmental conservation in the region.
