Analyst: Algeria Faces Media Smear Campaign, Army is Force for Peace

A prominent strategic affairs analyst, Dr. Rachid Allouche, has asserted that recent reports targeting Algeria and its military are part of a deliberate media campaign orchestrated by well-known actors with specific agendas. Allouche made these remarks during an appearance on the Algerian International Radio program “Guest of the International.”

He emphasized that the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) is a force dedicated to promoting peace, security, and stability in the region, and not an instrument for intervention in the internal affairs of other nations. This statement directly counters claims made in the aforementioned reports.

Dr. Allouche also expressed surprise at the content of the reports, recalling Algeria’s own history as a victim of terrorist attacks in northern Mali, which targeted members of its diplomatic corps. He highlighted Algeria’s consistent refusal to succumb to external pressure to involve its military in the region or to negotiate with extremist groups.

He further reiterated Algeria’s long-standing approach to combating terrorism in the Sahel region, an approach championed by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. This strategy focuses on providing economic and social assistance to the region, promoting development, and fostering bilateral agreements with neighboring countries. Initiatives such as the establishment of crossing points, the African Continental Free Trade Area, the SEMOC mechanism, and the Algerian Agency for Development and Solidarity in the Sahel further exemplify this commitment.

Allouche concluded by stressing that the most effective way to counter this malicious media campaign, built on rumors and misinformation, is through national unity and the solidarity of the people with the institutions of the state, in order to protect the sovereignty of the nation. He urged Algerians to remain vigilant against attempts to destabilize the country through propaganda and disinformation. The analyst believes that by standing together, Algeria can weather this storm and continue its path towards progress and stability.
