Algeria Reaffirms Commitment to Dialogue at UN Forum in Riyadh

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Algeria has reiterated its unwavering commitment to dialogue and tolerance during the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) Forum held in Riyadh. The Algerian delegation, led by Sofiane Chaib, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the National Community Abroad, participated in the 11th UNAOC Forum on December 14th and 15th.

The forum, themed “Two Decades of Dialogue for Humanity: Advancing a New Era of Mutual Respect and Understanding in a Multipolar World,” brought together high-level representatives including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations and Special Envoy for combating Islamophobia, Miguel Moratinos, government officials, international figures, youth leaders, and activists dedicated to promoting a culture of peace and understanding between cultures and religions.

This year’s forum marks the 20th anniversary of the UNAOC, an international platform for cultural dialogue, cooperation, and understanding. Its primary goal is to bridge divides, combat intolerance, extremism, exclusion, hate speech, marginalization, and Islamophobia.

During his address at the high-level meeting of the Group of Friends of the Alliance of Civilizations, Sofiane Chaib emphasized Algeria’s call for a comprehensive approach that strengthens cooperation and deepens intellectual, cultural, religious, and scientific ties between peoples. He further advocated for supporting the UNAOC initiative and equipping it with the necessary mechanisms to implement the principles of the UN Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and other relevant international instruments.

The Secretary of State highlighted Algeria’s ongoing efforts on the international stage to promote peaceful coexistence by sharing its expertise in peaceful conflict resolution and the fight against terrorism. Algeria continues to champion dialogue as a crucial tool for building a more inclusive and tolerant global community.
