Algiers – Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djelloul, chaired a meeting today at the ministry headquarters to review the progress of procedures related to financing the Laghouat-Ghardaia-El Menia railway project. The funding is being considered by the African Development Bank.
The meeting focused on the practical steps following the approval process for the railway line, a vital infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity and boosting economic activity in the region. The Laghouat-Ghardaia-El Menia railway is expected to significantly reduce travel times and facilitate the transportation of goods, thereby stimulating trade and investment.
Minister Djelloul emphasized the importance of expediting the necessary procedures to ensure the timely disbursement of funds from the African Development Bank. He stressed the government’s commitment to completing the project efficiently and according to the highest standards. The railway line is a key component of the national infrastructure development plan, designed to modernize the country’s transportation network and support sustainable economic growth.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Public Works and representatives from relevant government agencies participated in the meeting. Discussions centered on overcoming potential obstacles and streamlining the administrative processes to accelerate the project’s implementation. The railway is seen as crucial for unlocking the economic potential of the southern regions of Algeria, fostering greater integration with the rest of the country.
The meeting concluded with a series of directives aimed at accelerating the completion of the financing arrangements and ensuring the smooth commencement of construction work on the Laghouat-Ghardaia-El Menia railway line.
