United Nations, New York – Algeria has strongly criticized Israel’s ongoing violations of international law, asserting that the current global system prioritizes power over justice. Ambassador Amar Bendjamaa, Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, addressed the Security Council on Tuesday, highlighting the alarming disregard for international norms.
Bendjamaa emphasized that Israel continues to flout ceasefire agreements in Gaza on a daily basis. He pointed to the persistent expansion of settlements in the occupied West Bank as a blatant violation of international law and numerous UN resolutions. According to Bendjamaa, Israel’s actions are emboldened by a global order that seemingly rewards strength and disregards legal frameworks designed to ensure peace and security.
“The international community must take decisive action to hold Israel accountable for its actions,” Bendjamaa stated. He argued that the failure to enforce international law undermines the credibility of the UN and emboldens further violations. He reiterated Algeria’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination.
The Algerian Ambassador called for renewed efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace in the region, based on the two-state solution. He stressed the urgent need for the Security Council to take concrete measures to ensure the implementation of its resolutions and to prevent further escalation of the conflict. Algeria believes that a comprehensive approach, addressing the root causes of the conflict, is essential to achieving lasting stability in the Middle East.
This statement comes amid growing international concern over the deteriorating situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the ongoing lack of progress in the peace process. The international community is urged to take notice of Algeria’s plea and act accordingly.
