Algiers, Algeria – The 11th National Cultural Festival of Andalusian San’aa Music concluded Monday evening in Algiers, marking the end of a week-long celebration of this rich musical heritage. The closing night featured captivating performances by two prominent musical associations: ‘Cordoba of Algiers’ and ‘Algiers Al-Mawsiliya’.
The ‘Cordoba of Algiers’ association, led by Najib Katteb, presented a selection of classic Andalusian pieces, showcasing the intricate melodies and poetic lyrics characteristic of the San’aa tradition. Their performance highlighted the enduring influence of Cordoba, Spain, on Algerian musical forms. The ensemble demonstrated exceptional musical skill and a deep understanding of the nuances of Andalusian music.
Following ‘Cordoba of Algiers’, the ‘Algiers Al-Mawsiliya’ association, under the direction of Mahmoud Hadj Ali, took to the stage. Their rendition explored the connections between Andalusian music and the musical traditions of Mosul, Iraq, offering a unique perspective on the cross-cultural influences that have shaped the San’aa style.
