Mexican Congresswomen Brawl on Live TV Over Policy Dispute

A heated altercation between female members of the Mexico City Congress erupted into a physical brawl during a live broadcast, sparking widespread condemnation across Mexican media and social media platforms.

The incident, which saw congresswomen pulling hair and exchanging blows on the floor of the assembly, stemmed from a dispute over proposed reforms to the city government’s transparency and oversight agency. According to reports, the clash began when a group of congresswomen from the right-leaning National Action Party (PAN) approached the main podium to protest what they perceived as a procedural violation by the ruling left-leaning Morena party.

Video footage circulating online shows at least five legislators from both parties engaged in a heated verbal exchange that quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. The congresswomen were seen pushing, slapping, and pulling each other’s hair, while Morena party members attempted to forcibly remove the PAN members from the podium. Despite these efforts, the protesting congresswomen refused to yield, resulting in the disruption of the live session.

The incident has triggered a wave of criticism online, with many expressing shock and dismay at the chaotic scenes. Critics argue that such behavior undermines public trust in legislative institutions and highlights the deep divisions between political parties, potentially threatening the democratic process in Mexico City.

“This chaos shows what happens when governance breaks down and turns into complete dysfunction,” one user wrote on social media. Others questioned the leadership on display, asking, “How can this be considered real leadership?! Why is the people of Mexico forced to watch their representatives act this way instead of serving them?” The video serves as documentation of an official session in Mexico City descending into a physical altercation as the opposition attempted to obstruct a vote.

The incident remains under review by congressional authorities.
