Algiers – The National Meteorology Office has issued a severe weather warning for several provinces across Algeria, forecasting heavy thunderstorms and significant rainfall. The alert, issued today, Wednesday, indicates that rainfall amounts could reach or exceed 70mm in some areas.
The provinces most affected by this weather system include El Bayadh, Laghouat, Djelfa, Ghardaia, and El Menia. Rainfall is expected to persist in these regions until Friday at 6:00 AM.
A separate weather advisory has been issued for the provinces of Tiaret, Saida, Sidi Bel Abbes, Tlemcen, and Naama. These areas are expected to receive between 20 and 40 mm of rainfall, beginning today, Wednesday, at 6:00 PM and continuing until Friday at 3:00 AM.
Southern regions of the country, particularly northern Tamanrasset and Ain Salah, are also forecast to experience considerable rainfall, with amounts ranging from 20 to 30 mm. This is expected to begin on Thursday at 3:00 AM and last until 3:00 PM the same day.
Authorities are urging citizens in the affected areas to exercise caution and take necessary precautions. Residents are advised to be aware of the potential for flash flooding and rising water levels. It is also crucial to stay informed by monitoring official weather updates and advisories.
