Algiers, December 18, 2025 – Algeria and Chad convened a working session today in Algiers to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation in the mining sector. The meeting was jointly chaired by Ms. Karima Bekir Tafer, Secretary of State to the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, in charge of Mines, and Ms. Ndolenodji Alixe Naïmbaye, Minister of Petroleum, Mines, and Geology of the Republic of Chad.
The session, held in the Algerian capital, focused on identifying specific opportunities for collaboration and developing a roadmap for future joint initiatives. Discussions centered on leveraging Algeria’s experience and expertise in mining exploration, extraction, and processing to support the development of Chad’s mining industry.
“This meeting signifies a shared commitment to deepening our partnership in a sector vital to both our economies,” stated Ms. Bekir Tafer. “We are eager to share our knowledge and resources to assist Chad in unlocking its mineral potential and creating sustainable economic growth.”
Ms. Naïmbaye echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in advancing Chad’s mining sector. She highlighted the potential for Algerian investment and technical assistance to play a crucial role in modernizing Chad’s mining operations and attracting further foreign investment.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines, the discussions were productive and laid a solid foundation for future collaboration. Both sides agreed to establish a joint working group to further explore specific areas of cooperation and develop concrete proposals for joint projects. The working group will focus on areas such as geological surveys, mining training, and the development of sustainable mining practices.
This initiative underscores Algeria’s commitment to fostering stronger economic ties with its African neighbors and promoting regional development through strategic partnerships in key sectors.
