Algeria’s Registered Businesses Exceed 2.4 Million

Algiers, December 18, 2025 – The number of economic operators registered in Algeria’s commercial register has surpassed 2.4 million, according to the Minister of Internal Trade and Regulation of the National Market, Amel Abdelatif.

Minister Abdelatif revealed the figures during a presentation to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on the sidelines of the inauguration of the 33rd edition of the Algerian Production Fair at the Palais des Expositions in Pins Maritimes. As of December 10th, the total number of registered economic operators reached 2,419,913. This figure is comprised of 2,145,557 natural persons (89% of the total) and 274,356 legal entities (companies).

The Minister’s presentation also detailed the distribution of these operators across various sectors. Retail trade accounts for 11.42% (1,092,176 traders), while the services sector represents 37.6% (975,346 operators). The production of goods and services accounts for 14.45% (374,748 operators), wholesale trade represents 4.45% (115,423), import for resale constitutes 0.90% (23,243), export represents 0.31% (8,111), and artisanal production accounts for 0.18% (4,666).

Addressing the growth of productive enterprises over the past five years, Abdelatif noted an increase of over 36,000 economic operators. The number rose from 338,039 in 2020 to 374,748 in early December, representing a 10% increase. This increase includes 275,429 natural persons (73% of the total) and 99,319 legal entities (27%).

According to the data presented, over 50% of the operators active in the production of goods and services are concentrated in ten provinces: Algiers, Oran, Tizi Ouzou, Setif, Bejaia, Constantine, Blida, Boumerdes, Batna, and Bordj Bou Arreridj.
