Algeria and Egypt Discuss Libyan, Sudanese Crises

Cairo, December 19, 2025 – Algerian and Egyptian officials convened in Cairo on Friday to discuss pressing regional issues, with a particular focus on the ongoing crises in Libya and Sudan. The meeting, held at Al-Tahrir Palace, brought together Algerian Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, and his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdel-Aaty.

According to a statement released by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two ministers reviewed the outcomes of the ninth session of the Algerian-Egyptian Joint High Committee, which took place in Cairo on November 26th. Both ministers expressed satisfaction with the results achieved during the session. They also emphasized the significant importance that the leaders of both nations, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria and President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt, place on strengthening the bonds of brotherhood, cooperation, and partnership between their countries.

The discussions extended beyond bilateral relations to encompass a range of regional and international issues of mutual concern. A key focus of the meeting was the situation in Gaza and the broader Palestinian question. Furthermore, the ministers engaged in detailed conversations regarding the crises in Sudan and Libya, seeking avenues for collaborative efforts to promote stability and peace in these regions.

The evolving security and political landscape in the Sahel region was also addressed. Both Algeria and Egypt have a vested interest in the stability of the Sahel, given its proximity and the potential for regional spillover effects. The ministers exchanged perspectives on the challenges facing the region and explored potential strategies for addressing them.
