Aouar Injury Forces Abdelli Call-Up for 2025 AFCON

Algiers, Algeria – Midfielder Houssem Aouar has been ruled out of Algeria’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations campaign due to injury. The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) announced today that Aouar sustained a muscular injury during a recent training session, forcing his withdrawal from the national team’s preparations.

According to a statement released by the FAF, Aouar complained of muscle pain, prompting a thorough medical examination. The results of the tests, conducted on Thursday evening, confirmed that he would be unable to continue training and participate in the 2025 AFCON tournament.

Following the medical team’s recommendations, a decision was made on Friday morning to release Aouar from the training camp, officially excluding him from the squad set to compete in the continental championship.

In response to Aouar’s injury, national team coach Vladimir Petkovic has called up Himead Abdelli as a replacement. Abdelli has already joined the national team camp as they continue their preparations for the highly anticipated African tournament.

The Algerian national team is currently intensifying its training efforts, with the coaching staff focused on ensuring the players reach peak fitness before the start of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The team has high ambitions for the tournament and aims to compete for the coveted continental title. DZWatch will continue to provide updates on the team’s progress.
